Snowy the fox

I was standing there in the freezing snow.
I was trying to find food.
I dived in to the the deep snow,
trying to find field mice.
My first try I came up with nothing.
Second time I came up with a field mouse.
I was no longer hungry.
But the snow still fell.
I was still cold.

Why sugar is bad for you by Nehemiah.

Why sugar is bad for you by Nehemiah.
Sugar is bad for you because it fills you with empty calories and fat. It also rots your teeth and can give you cancer.
If you eat too much junk food, which is full of sugar, you will get fat.

People that don’t exercise won’t achieve anything. If you don’t exercise the sugar energy turns into fat. This can cause fatty liver disease. When people eat a lot of sugar they can get diseases like type 2 diabetes.

Sugar can also cause cancer. It can cause addiction. You get addicted to the sweetness. Sugar can give you heart disease. It’s not the fat that kills you. It’s the sugar! British people consume 238 teaspoons of sugar a week.

You can get vitamin C sugar or fat sugar. If you eat too much sugar you can become lazy. It brainwashes your brain to thinking you have loads of energy but if you don’t use the energy up, it turns to fat. If you eat too much sugar you might die of fatness. Sugar is bad for you!

Irene's speech about why pitbulls should not be banned.

Hi my name is Irene and I would like tell why Pitbulls should not be banned. I think that banning Pitbulls is stupid because …

The Pitbull has no inherent dangerous characteristics and banning would make no progress in safety.

Pitbull’s do not have the strongest jaws of all dog breeds in fact out of study that included Pitbulls, Rottweilers and German Shepard the Pitbull has the weakest jaws.

Pitbulls may attack often but this may just be because they are   trained to do so. Some people just buy Pitbulls because they want tough dogs that can attack and be violent.

People who want dangerous dogs train them to be this way .just because Pitbulls attack more than any other dog doesn’t mean they attack a lot or a dangerous amount of time
They are dangerous because they are purposefully trained as a breed to be dangerous. If Pitbulls were banned another dog breed would be trained to be just as dangerous and no progress in safety would be made.
Some pit bulls get bad rap because of their irresponsible owners. We must as a society stop blaming the dog and start blaming the owner.
The average domestic dog has a jaw that can force 320 psi of pressure. In this same study the Pitbull maxed out at only 235 psi. Chihuahua’s have more bite than pitbulls!
With proper training and handling your Pitbull can learn to live peacefully in the company of other dogs and often cats as well.
Ken Howard award winning actor from crossing Jordan was saved by his Pitbull shadow during a medical crisis.

Though Pitbulls are athletic and love to play if they had their druthers they would be sleeping on the couch 24/7.
Pitbulls are very   easy to train all they want to do is please you. As they are so sensitive to your feeling verbal training comes easily with this breed.

Here are some facts about why I think Pitbulls should not be banned:
Pitbulls are no more vicious than golden retrievers.
Pitbulls can’t lock their jaws.
Pitbulls always test high as one of the most stable breeds of dogs in the country.
Would you like it if pitbulls were banned and your dog got taken off you?
And that’s why I think pitbulls should not be banned .

Teneille's speech about why we should recycle.

Why we should recycle.
Hi, my name is Teneille and I have a question for you. Would you like to live in polluted air? I know I wouldn’t!
There are lots of reasons why we should recycle there’s pollution to landfills their all polluting our air. Next thing you know where dying and suffocating. If we don’t start to recycle we will die.
Here are some reasons why we should recycle.
1.    We need to reduce pollution. We can do that by:
Recycling more and not sending things to landfills.
2.    Reduction in landfills: the size of landfills can be significantly reduced if we start to recycle. Yes that’s right, it’s that easy!!!!
3.     Conservation of materials: all the new products are made from the raw materials which are produced from harvesting the natural material.
How long will litter last?
Aluminium cans….500 years.
Glass bottles….1, 000, 000.
Plastic bags….10-20 years.
Plastic jugs….1, 000,000.
Tin soup can….80-100 years.
Disposable paper….500 years.
Rubber boot sole….50-80 years.
Leather….50 years.
Wool sock….1 year.
Orange and banana skins….3-4 week.
Cigarette butts….1-5 years.
That a lot for just litter.
Only an idiot would not recycle! If that person did not recycle we would all die because of how polluted our air is. Did you know? That not only is it bad to put electronics into the land fill, they are filled with valuable resources and materials including metals, plastic and glass. So, instead of throwing them out you can donate them to a charity organization or recycle them.
Here are some of the things I know about recycling.Recycling benefits everyone, REALLY! There is a limited amount of space on earth for us to live on!! Because we do not recycle. Recycling one ton of paper can save: 4,100 kilowatts of  power, 172 trees and 7000 gallons of water (that’s two tanker trucks!)

My school is trying to get a green gold award. We recycle paper, so then trees can get sent to us. We have also been renovating our adventure playground and keeping our school clean. So now I hope you can see my point of view of why we should recycle!!!!!!

Hannah's speech on rats on Bluff Hill.

Rat traps should be set on Bluff Hill by Hannah.

Would    you   like   it  if  there  was   no  birds  chirping   when  you  go  for  a  walk ?  It   might  happen   because of rats.  Hello  my  name  is  Hannah.  I am   9  years  old  and  I  am  going to tell you  about why   rats   are   not   good  for  birdlife.

There are three types of rats Norway ship and kiore. Kiore are poor swimmers. If   you   aren’t   setting traps to catch  the   rats    the    number of   birdlife  will   go  down. If  this  happens   I   will   go  wild   because   when  I go  for a walk  I  would  not   be  able  to  listen   to birds  chirping.
Ship rats are causing the most damage  to our wild life  and nature because they are good climbers so they can climb up to the highest nests in the trees.

DOC administers 230  islands off the coast on NZ.   15 of these islands have kiore, maori rats.  Rat traps on DOC administered islands   would    reduce   the rats by  only  four   percent . Doc, heath and regional authorities are involved in posing operations to ensure risk to humans the environment and non- target   species is minimized.

Bluff  has   set  up   rat   traps  at  Bluff  Hill. Rats   have  a major  impact  on  New  Zealand  wild life   because  rats  eat  native    animals  and their  eggs.   If you aren’t   trapping rats  more, poor birds   and their eggs  will   suffer .
You can help by putting poisoning in your house and set rat traps somewhere safe outside. If we don’t do something one day birds will be extinct and  we need do something or else other people won’t  grow up listening to birds chirping  like us and chasing birds or watching them.

Rats are not good for bird life and nature. It is now winter so the rats are coming out and going into our houses so put up rat traps or poisoning in your house.. I do rat trapping with my grandad up Bluff Hill you too should do something to help the birds. Thanks for listening to my speech.

Ezi cigarettes versus normal cigarettes by Riley May

Hello my name Riley. Do you think that ezi cigarettes are worse than normal cigarettes?
I believe that ezi cigarettes are worse for you. The vaper produced by the popular brand of ezi cigarettes contains toxic levels of metals, far greater than those found in the smoke of traditional cigarettes.
The liquid used in e-cigarettes can be hazardous. If I get cancer from second hand smoke I’ll go wild.
In a study of an American adult 37% were opposed to ezi cigarette use in smoke free areas. Once the liquid vaporized the user can inhale it mimicking the process of smoking.
E-cigarettes can help smokers reduce or stop smoking. In terms of the chemicals contained in ezi-cigarettes, much is  unknown about precisely what is the present what their long-term effects are. While manufacturers will claim that their devices are safe, various studies have questioned this presumption ezi-cigarettes canton toxic chemicals including  carcinogen, substances known to cause cancer acetaldehyde.
Adults (18-24) rose by 321% between 2011 many teens who start with e-cigarettes may be condemned to struggle with a lifelong addiction to nicotine and conventional cigarettes.
The main argument used in support of e-cigarettes is that they can help people quit smoking.
Although safer than smoking the long term health  impact of e-cigarettes is still not fully is known and need further research I would recommended that anyone  using e- cigarette  to quit smoking.  Over all there safety risk to users is like that of smokeless tobacco. For instance in the UK user numbers have increased 700,000 in 2012 to 2.6 million in 2015. In United States e-cigarettes are used by a significant percentage of young people about 60% of UK users are smokers and about 40% ex-smokers while use among never smokers remains “negligible”. Wail e-cigarettes are likely safer than tobacco cigarettes are long term health effects are unknown
Would you like if your teenage daughter got cancer from e-cigarettes?
Now you should know to not smoke e-cigarettes

Why we should colonise the moon by Couper.

We should get to live on the moon. By couper
Imagine waking up and seeing the earth below you… that would be cool. To see the earth below you would have to be on the moon.  If you were a scientist you could get a moon rock just by going outside your lunar module instead of getting it for millions of dollars just to ship it to your lab. We have seen everywhere on earth except the very bottom of the sea so the moon would a great place to explore next.
The moon is to people today what the new world was to people 600 years ago. In my lifetime we will establish some kind of permanent station on the moon. Mind you I plan to live another 80 years.
Russia is planning to colonise the moon by 2030, if moon colonisation in 14 years is even possible! How will they do this? What technology will be needed to make this happen? Russia was planning on having robot missions this year but this hasn’t happen yet.
Russia has the experience of keeping astronauts alive in orbiting space station. They are really good at this while America has put a man on the moon and sent robots to Mars. Russia has a better chance of making space colonisation happen. Although America has the International Space Station in our atmosphere.
Russia can develop the infrastructure to colonise the moon but one of the problems will be that the Moon as 14 days of sunlight followed by 14 day of darkness.
The moon is a very dry place. That is why it is difficult to imagine living on it.  The challenge is to find out where water is and how to tap it. Lunar dust can block machinery because there is no weather on the moon, it is hard to clean off.
Anyone who wants to colonise the moon will need lots of training and money to make this happen.  Billions of money has been sent sending rovers to Mars but the moon is closer to us and we have already had people on the moon so we should be looking at colonising it.
There are advantages to colonising the moon. It would be a great step for space exploration also you may say the atmosphere is less than earth with less gravitational pull than earth.
It has some natural resources like titanium which could be used to make more rockets as it stronger and lighter than steel. There is no light pollution on the moon so radio and optical observatories could be built there.
The moon could be used for more homes as earth probably won’t be able to sustain 10 billion people. Our population is rising.
The moon could be used to grow organic food away from pesticides and pollution, and away from pests. The only way to get pests to the moon is to take them there.
Or… you could use the moon as a prison and send all the crooks there. They couldn’t escape and get back to earth even if they were smart enough, they couldn’t fly a rocket ship back to earth.

My last point is if a nuclear war or WW3 happens or even if earth gets to polluted we still have a home so we can keep living on after earth OR we could just get rid of nuclear weapons, plant more trees, recycle, don’t eat thing that are artificial and get a garden but that’s not about what this is about but you should still do that. By now you should think that we should get to the moon. I hope you can see that is makes good sense.

Nathan's Speech

Should people who don’t recycle have to pay a fine of $50?
My opinion on this topic is yes I think should have to.
Hi my name is Nathan and I want to talk to you about this topic.
My first point is that each New Zealander consumes about 36kg of plastic packaging per year and only recycles 8.64kg. That’s a lot plastic that goes to landfills and remember plastic packaging hardly weighs anything! People really need to start recycling or even reusing and a good thing to do make people start recycling is to make them lose some of their “precious” money if they don’t recycle. People don’t like losing money (it’s a different thing to give it away) and if they have to recycle to keep it they are probably going want to recycle.
My second point is it saves a lot of trees if you recycle paper. You might say “how is that going to save trees?” so I am going to tell you.
Paper is made out of trees as you probably know and when you recycle paper they can make new paper out of the old paper (just make sure that it is flat and not crumpled up) and they don’t have to cut down as many trees.
Here are some facts that you probably don’t know-for every 1 tonne of paper recycled, 13 trees are saved, 31,780 litres of water is saved, 2.5 barrels of oil is saved, 4 cubic yards of landfill space is saved, 4,100 kWs of electricity is saved and making paper from recycled materials results in 74% less air pollution and 35% less air pollution.

That is why I think people should get a fine of $50 if they don’t recycle but you might think the opposite. Thank you for listening. :)

Why Orcas should not be in captivity.

Why we need to help animals out of captivity
                      By Maia Lonneker
We need to help animals get out of captivity!
My first point is that it is wrong that animals are kept in zoos, sea world and lots of other places. Animals are in places they shouldn’t be right now. People have treated animals like they are worth nothing. Animals are a vital part of the world. Animals should be left in the wild because they will be able to be with their families. Animals need their families like people need families!
My second point is that Zoos and SeaWorld don’t have room for animals to play, to eat food and be with their families.  Local people feel that animals don’t have much room in captivity but in the wild they have lots of room. Captivity will ruin their quality of life.
Did you know tigers and lions have 18,000 times less space in zoos than in the wild? Also did you now that polar bears have millions of times less space  and that why some animals are going to be endangered because animals are in captivity.
If I was an animal in captivity I would feel  depressed and angry. Also I believe SeaWorld should be closed down because animals don’t like it and I hope you agree with my reasons to close SeaWorld down. If you were an animal in SeaWorld would you want to get treated like that?
Did you know in 1965, the first ever orca show at SeaWorld, San Diego in California was performed by an Orca called Shamu?
During Shamu’s capture, her mother was shot with a harpoon and killed before the young orcas very eyes by a marine cowboy named Ted griffin. She was then taken to Seaworld and captivity.
Sea world confines whales and dolphins, who often swim up to 100 miles a day in the wild, to tanks that to them are the size of a bathtub.

Sea world presents itself as a family establishment full of fun educational activities. However these activities harm animals physically and emotionally.
SeaWorld has the  financial means and ability to create coastal sanctuaries, were the orcas would have a more natural and less stressful life and where they could feel the tides and waves, and communicate with their wild relatives and other ocean animals and engage in other natural behaviour that they are now denied.

I strongly believe that SeaWorld should be closed because I don’t like the way SeaWorld holds the animals in captivity. Think about it? How would you feel if you were held in captivity for the entertainment of others?

Thank you.

World Peace speech by Sarah Jean

   World Peace by Sarah Jean.

World Peace can happen! Just believe in it …

Hi my name Sarah –Jean. I believe if we all try hard enough we can make world peace!

If you don’t think you should try too! we can make a different world, a different place for everyone to live in a safe and peaceful world .

World Peace is an ideal of freedom, Peace, and happiness among and within all nations and/or people. World Peace is an idea of planetary non-violence by which nations willingly cooperate.

If we could get world peace, we could help others have peace! No more WARS!!

Only 11 Countries in the world are currently at peace, a shocking new study has revealed. Out of 162 countries, 151 of the world’s nations are currently involved in some form of conflict. Militarily or by virtue of a system of governance that prevents warfare.

War is defined as an active conflict that has claimed more than 1,000 lives. Of the past 3,400 years humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history. At least 108 million people were killed in wasps in the twentieth century.

In the world’s most difficult and dangerous conflicts, local peace-builders are making a real difference. Every day they risk their lives tho build peace and prevent conflict in the places where it starts – locally.

World peace day is 21st September! In conflict areas worldwide local people are building peace. stopping violence, saving lives, healing shattered communities. These local heroes can work in places outsiders can’t reach.

And they stay long after the immediate danger has passed. They work timelessly for the future of their country because it is, quite simply, their home. Post cards for peace! The postcard is a simple and internationally recognized form of communication and an ideal way to connect like-minded people around the world.there mission is to use postcards to improve the well being of those people, around the world, whose lives are affected by violence or prejudice, by promoting change and offering hope, support and education.

Local people have the power to find their own solutions to conflict – and to build their own better futures. Together we can make this happen!! We can make WORLD PEACE

Please look at your hand for a moment. Hold it up, palm facing you. We all have five fingers, but the first we call a thumb. In appearance it looks different. It stands out. And it is strong. It represents freedom of speech, the idea that stands out, that stands up to dishonesty and corruption.

Next, look at your index finger. We point with this one. It gives us direction. It represents freedom of religion. Each of us is free to choose our own direction, with or without God, and for those who decide that God is their guide, then they are free to have their own relationship with God without the state telling them what that relationship must be. Interference by the state pollutes the relationship with God.

Third is the middle finger, the longest of all. It represents freedom from want, the long road of existence, and the certainty that there will be food, water, shelter, education, and health care for every one of us no matter where we may be on that road.

Next, for many of us, is the marriage ring finger, either the right or the left hand, and for all of us, a finger with a direct link to our nervous system. It represents freedom for the environment. Life. We all have a direct link to the Earth and the ecosystem of which we are a part. When the life of the Earth is spoiled, our lives are spoiled.

Finally, there is our “little finger,” shorter and smaller than the rest. It represents freedom from fear. It’s the “finale” of our hand, our reward. All the others lead to this one.

As you take a look at your hand and recount the Five Freedoms, remember that you didn’t ask for that hand, you were born with it. So too, you do not have to ask for the Five Freedoms, you were born with them. They are five freedoms for all!

                     Yesterday

Yesterday I went to Stirling point.
The familiar crunch of gravel filled my ears but soon the  sound of the sea was what I was listening for.
The crashing and splashing of the waves rang like bells in  my ears.
The sun was setting on the sea taking away its path of  glitter.                                                                                 Now it was dark.                                                                       I soon was shaded by the trees and the sea disappeared from  my sight.

Christmas gift

Last Christmas I found out that me and my family were going to Australia! In August
2016! I am really excited about it because I have never been before.

We were having an exciting Christmas dinner. I was stuffed!!!!!!!

The Christmas tree was sparkling and bright I went "WOW"

Later on that night we went to the lounge to eat more food! It smelt so good I could not wait to eat it. Playing in the back round was beautiful Christmas music. I loved it!

It tasted so good because it was chicken but not normal chicken... it was roast chicken! With peas

Then it was time to open the presents the felt so...soft and squishy. We also got envelope with a bank book, a ticket to all the theme parks and a job list
(To earn some money) and a beautiful Christmas card.

Later Dad and Erena opened their presents. Dad got a neck pillow and erena got a massager.

And that is how we found out that we are going to Australia!!!!!!

Why all Pakistani women should have the education to read
Would you like it if you couldn’t read even if you wanted to?
In Pakistan most women and girls can’t read. In fact the literacy rate is 46% while only 26% are literate!
I think that what is happening in these countries is disgusting and morally wrong some people don’t even have a chance to become Christians because they can’t read.
Did you know the female literacy rate is between 8 and 13%? Only 54% of girls are enrolled in primary schools, which drops to 30% for secondary schools. The Taliban has amazingly destroyed more than 400 schools.
Reading is fun, interesting and important.                                 “I want to go to school to learn but I cannot because my parents do not allow me to do so,” said 9- year-old Palwasha, who has visited the biggest city of Pakistan where she saw girls of her own age going to school.
Pakistani religious representatives stated in interviews that girls should not receive the same education as boys, but be prepared to become ‘obedient’ wives and mothers. This makes my blood boil!
I think women and men should have the same rights in education. Now that you have listened to my speech only a complete idiot would still think Pakistani women shouldn’t be able to read.
